A Busy Day in the Garden

I does not seem like the same week that we had that snow! Today has been lovely and sunny all day so we have been taking advantage of that. I took the afternoon off and took advantage of the nice weather to work out in the polytunnel.

Onions around the edge of bedsI planted some onion sets from indoors around the edges of the central and side bed – for one thing, I want to see whether they will be ready earlier and/or bigger than the ones I plant outside. For another, permaculture principles are at work and this is one of the examples of how I am using companion planting – primarily to deter or confuse carrot fly. The carrots I will be direct sowing into a portion of the central bed within the next couple of weeks, along with some other things, then in batches throughout the year.

I also pricked out some perpetual spinach, lettuces and pak choi and planted them in the tunnel, to see how they do in there. They are sitting under the beans and peas.

Meanwhile, the vegetable beds out the front are coming along.
